KISHOREKUMAR

An Versatile and Genius Personality.

Certainly when we hear comedy type songs which we feel happy, I just remember one great legend Kishoreda, yes “Kishore Kumar Ganguly”. What a type of personality he was. He was a great allrounder in this Hindi film industry where no other famous personality is being born till now. He has to sing any type of songs. He had no classical knowledge of music, but he was a great singer. Kishoreda was as comedian as also a serious type of person he was. He was a great eccentric person with many people. His closest friends was Danny, Mangeshkar sisters, Director Shakti Samanta, Iftikar, Amithab Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, music director RDBurman and Mehmood. He had a unique talent where he made himself a composer, film-director, lyric writer, story writer, actor, singer, producer and director as well. His co-singer Lata Mangeshkar quoted that he was a “Sampurna Kalakar”. He was the youngest brother of the famous versatile actor Ashok Kumar. He made his entry in the films as a actor and acted many films like Half Ticket, Miss Mary, Ganga ki Lehre, Chalti Ka naam Gadi, Padosan, Bombay to Goa (Guest Appearance) and many other films. Kishoreda sang the songs with all the music directors especially Kemchand Prakash (Ziddi) 1948, then CRamchandra, O.P.Nayyar, Chitragupta, Ravi, Shankar-Jaikishan, S.D.Burman, Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, R.D.Burman, Bappi Lahiri and others. He gave break to Bappi Lahiri in the film “Disco Dancer”, the song was “Aaha Jara Mudke mila aanke” then “O jalta hai jiya mera” from the film “Zakhmi” with Asha Bhosale and then “Chalte Chalte” the title song and many more songs in his baton. He sang many songs under R.D.Burman’s direction. His songs in Kasmewade, Shaan, Sholay, Barsaat ki Raat, Satte pe Satta, Shakti, The Great Gambler and many other films. They both had a long relations in the film industry after R.D’s father gave a momentum to Kishoreda. S.D.Burman made famous to this singer in the film “Aaradhana”, the song “Mere Sapano ki raani” and overnight he became very famous till 1975, when SDBurman gave his last music in the film “Mili”, the songs was “Aaye tum Yaad mujhe” and “Badi sooni sooni hai” and then SDBurman expired. Kishoreda was genius in his life time. He gave his voice to Devanand, Rajeshkhanna, Amithab Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and also many other famous stars. He sang with Mohdrafi, Mukesh, Mannadey, Lata mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale and many other singers. He also gave break to his son Amit Kumar. He along with his son sang many songs in the films like “Khatta Meetha, Desh Pardesh, Aap Ke Diwane, Kasmewade and so on. Kishorekumar also directed, produced, written and composed some films like Door gagan ki chaav mein (1961), Shabash Daddy (1978), Badti ka naam dadhi (1974) and Mamta ki chaav mein. He sang many songs with Asha Bhosale and Lata Mangeshkar. Kishore kumar sang a famous song with his co-singers Mukesh, Rafi and lata mangeshkar, the song was from the film “Amar Akbar Anthony”, the song was “Humko tumse ho gaya hai pyar”. He gave many concerts in India and abroad. He sang romantic, sad, comedy type songs in the films. But, he sang in other languages like Marathi, Gujarati also. His last song was composed by Bappi Lahiri for the film “Waqt ki Awaaz” on 12th Oct 1987, the song was “Ae guru aa jao”. But on 13th Oct 1987, his elder brother’s birthday, his youngest brother kishoreda in his home wanted to celebrate his brother’s birthday suddenly got a massive heart attack in the evening when his wife Leena Chandavarkar and youngest son Sumeet kumar was at home. He died in this attack in the young age of 58. The tragedy took the film industry in a sudden shock and he went to another world where nobody returns. But we lost this versatile and genius personality forever, where there is no kishorekumar in this world. Kishoreda with his entire career married with 4 women which 3 didn’t last long with Ruma Devi, Madhubala, Yogita Bali and last Leena Chandavarkar. He left behind his wife, 2 sons Amit and Sumeet. When he died, all the film industry came to pay the last tribute to this versatile singer including Rajkapoor, Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu, Pran, RDBurman and many film personalities. It is now 21 years without Kishore Kumar, but he is still there with us kept a lot of treasure of songs, his films and what not. Kishoreda Amar Rahe!
